300 year celebrations by forming figure 300 by the people from different faiths
Event Details
The Sikh Centre with co-operation from the wider community is celebrating 300 years(tricentenary) celebrations of the holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib. (like holy Bible for the Christian religion and holy Ramayna for the Hindu religion) The Sikhs have had 10 Gurus from 1469 to 1739. (this was the chain of human gurus). The last guru, Guru Gobind Singh, before he left for his heavenly abode, ended the chain of human gurus and endowed permanent guruship to the holy scripture name Guru Granth sahib. Since that day Sikhs believe and treat holy scripture as a living guru. The Sikh scripture contains hymns and verses of the sikh gurus also the Hindu and Sufi saints of the time. The scripture is about the praises of nature and one God. The script of the holy scripture is Gurmukhi (literally means from Guru's mouth). The Scripture was endowed Guruship in October 1708. So the sikhs throughout the world are celebrating 300 years of guruship day. Worldwide events are happening in Oct/Nov. 2008. The Sikh centre is celebrating in a unique way on Friday Oct. 24 2008 by forming figure 300. So 300 volunteers from different faiths & cultures are attending to make figure 300. (volunteers could be any students or members of the community) The Seventh Day Adventist Academy from Redding has given me the committment of 60 students and 10 staff (total 70). There is no restriction on anybody to come and enjoy. But after we have completed the number 300, rest of the public can be spectators. Serving of Punjabi snacks and meals would be free for everybody. The Sikh centre has plenty of head scarfs for head covering but any style of head covering is acceptable. Spectators don't require any head coverings, it's only who would be in figure 300. To commamorate this day we have started interfaith dialogue sessions for 5, 12, 19 oct. 2008 (all sunday's) between 12-1pm. at The Sikh centre. On Oct. 5 Abu Bakr from Islamic Centre of Redding & Karen Stanley from First Christian Church came and delivered their speech. On Oct.12 speakers are Lynn E Fritz from SEC, Jennifer Pulioe and Jan Lopez. On 19th speakers would be George Wandrocke, Martin Murdock and Mike Mangas. I have taken the photos from yesterday speeches. Thanks. Amarjit Singh 5309214185 thesikhcentre@yahoo.com THE SIKH CENTRE ANDERSON, REDDING CA It's colourful, entertaining and educational event.
